ADR Expert Class July 2025 in Schlüchtern, Germany

From 30 June to 4 July 2025, ECR EGTC’s traditional ADR Expert Class was held in the small town of Schlüchtern, central Germany.

A total of 20 participants from eight countries came together to explore topics and questions related to dangerous goods legislation during this intensive training week. The list of participating countries included the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Romania.

As is customary, the event began with a written test to assess the current knowledge level of participants. Throughout the week, the experts collaborated in groups on practical inspection cases, applying legal frameworks to real-world scenarios.

In addition, innovations in dangerous goods law were presented through various lectures, including contributions from external speakers, offering new insights and perspectives. External speakers included Dr. Anita Schmidt from the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), who presented on the transport of damaged critical lithium batteries, and Karl Strack from GBK Gefahrgut Büro GmbH(GBK GmbH), who covered digital documentation according to guidelines for the use of 5.4.0.2 ADR in connection with the upcoming Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI).

The main focus of the event remained the harmonised application and interpretation of dangerous goods regulations. The sessions highlighted the importance of strong cooperation between European inspection authorities to keep pace with the evolving transport sector in Europe.

Thorough training like this plays a key role in equipping inspectors with the skills and knowledge needed for effective, consistent inspections, ultimately contributing to improved safety in the transport of dangerous goods across the continent.

Gonçalo Silva, Senior Technician at Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes in Portugal, shared his experience:

"This is my first time attending the ECR EGTC ADR Expert Class. I am impressed by the breadth of expertise and the professionalism of the ADR Expert Group, as well as the pleasant atmosphere of the conference venue. I will definitely participate again next year to improve my professional skills."
